With John Giles at Donnycarney FC fundraiser

Earlier on in the week, Donnycarney FC held a fundraiser with the very special guest of John Giles. Once myself and Aodhan O Riordain contacted him to help with the evening, he was only delighted to be involved.

A massive amount of effort has gone in over the past few weeks, particularly from Jason, Tony and Willie who are very well known in the club, to set up the hugely successful evening raising money for a great community club. Donnycarney FC is well known for its dedication to young people in this area, both boys and girls, which is very important to me as a former footballer in my schooldays myself! And I think that the very positive and cooperative relationship that the club has with Killester FC who have kindly given us the use of their clubhouse tonight and also with Craobh Ciaran is a real example for other communities and clubs to follow.

I did suggest in the car on the way over that he might consider a return to management given the recent high profile vacancy that has arisen over in Manchester, but unfortunately John has confirmed that hes not available for it at the present time. I pressed him a bit further and tried to see if he would take on the Donnycarney Under 10s, but had no luck there either!

Once again well done to all the organisers of such a fantastic event, and thank you once again to John Giles.
